After losing to Benfica in the Champions League, and dropping out of the top eight, angry Real Madrid fans have vented their frustration with Aurelien Tchouameni. The Frenchman started in the 4-2 defeat and certainly did not impress.
Coming up against former manager Jose Mourinho, Los Blancos took the lead through Kylian Mbappe, but then conceded three goals in a row. Andreas Schjelderup scored twice while Vangelis Pavlidis also got on the scoresheet before Mbappe then grabbed his second.
Raul Asencio later picked up a red card as Madrid looked beaten, but with Benfica still needing a goal to qualify in the top 24, they somehow did the unthinkable and scored through goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin in the dying seconds of the game.
In a remarkable twist of fate, that means Benfica will now play either Real Madrid or Inter Milan for a place in the last 16. Los Blancos were third in the Champions League table going into this evening, but dropped out of the top eight due to their defeat.
Tchouameni Has Shocker vs Benfica
Tchouameni had a day to forget against Benfica. He lasted just 55 minutes befote he got hooked but that time he picked up a yellow card, failed to win any of his two attempted tackles, and gave away three fouls – one of which was a penalty.
New boss Alvaro Arbeloa clearly wasn't impressed with what he saw as he replaced the Frenchman Eduardo Camavinga, with the team trailing 3-2. Having taken over from Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa will want to impress as much as possible in the coming months, and he would be wise to put more faith in Camavinga than Tchouameni in future Champions League games, especially with the league phase now over.
With that extra qualifying game now needed, and with Benfica potentially to face yet again, Arbeloa cannot afford to make the same mistake as he did tonight.

Real Madrid fans were far from happy with Tchouameni's efforts in the game. Many have started to lose patience with the player, with one writing:
"The masses are waking up, Aurelien Tchouameni is our worst midfielder. Shameful performance, Get him off, sell him to a Saudi club idc."
Along a similar theme, another added: "GET TCHOUAMENI OFF AND SELL HIM."
Others couldn't believe he wasn't subbed off at half-time, noting: "Tchouameni didn't get hooked at the half. Arbeloa, I'm already your biggest hater if we end up losing because of this idiot." And: "Arbeloa hasn't made subs?? Tchouameni is on a yellow and he's been terrible, he should be off before we're down to ten."
Another summed up the mood, writing: "Tchouameni…awful footballer." Another said: "Sell Tchouameni. Camavinga is better anyway."
A final supporter wrote: "Once we get rid of Tchouameni, then we can play this style that Arbeloa wants to play Tchouameni is not good at anything."
