Bruno Fernandes’ X social media account was hijacked by a hacker, who continuously posted negative articles.
Immediately following the 1-2 defeat to Brighton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes continued to face bad luck when his X social media account, with 4.5 million followers, was infiltrated by a hacker, who posted a series of shocking contents.
The match against Brighton was a forgettable day for Bruno Fernandes personally. After playing the full 90 minutes in Manchester United’s loss to Brighton, the Portuguese midfielder then had to deal with a serious media incident.
Fernandes’ X account was hacked.
Late that evening, his official X account was seized, initiating a series of extremely strange and offensive posts.
The hacker’s first post read: “Joined Macclesfield FC. Excited for the future.” This was a sarcastic hint, as Macclesfield Town is the team that just created an upset by eliminating Crystal Palace from the FA Cup.
The hacker continued with an arrogant affirmation: “I am always the winner, after all. No matter what happens,” accompanied by a money bag emoji.
Things got worse when the hacker began targeting the senior management structure of Manchester United. The most-viewed post was a call: “Get rid of INEOS.”
This message directly targeted the group belonging to billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is currently in charge of football operations at Old Trafford. The incident occurred in the context of many internal changes within the Red Devils after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
Not stopping there, the attacker deliberately rubbed salt in the wounds of the Red Devils fans by resharing a photo of the scoreboard from the devastating 0-7 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
In light of the urgent situation, Manchester United’s official account had to issue an urgent announcement: “Bruno Fernandes’ X account has been hacked. Fans should not interact with any posts or direct messages from this page.”
The incident persisted despite the technical team’s inability to recover the account. Before this incident, Bruno’s personal page was quite quiet with about 500 posts since 2019, the most recent update being the celebration of his 300th match for Man Utd in October.
The incident damaged Fernandes’ personal image. He and Man United are going through a turbulent and volatile period. According to the fixture list, the Red Devils’ next opponent is Man City.
