Manchester United have begun the process of identifying their next permanent manager, according to club legend Gary Neville, even as interim boss Michael Carrick continues his perfect start.
Neville revealed on the Gary Neville Podcast that he directly asked United officials about their stance: "They said 'we've actually begun our process now of starting to look for another manager'."
The club stressed they will not be rushed into a decision regardless of results over the coming months, preferring to wait until the end of the season before finalizing any appointment.
Carrick, installed as interim after Ruben Amorim's sacking last month, has won all four Premier League games in charge, beatingย Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham to propel United into fourth place.
Neville noted that if Carrick expresses interest in the full-time role, "he would go into a process" like any other candidate, though he may opt out. Potential rivals could include Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe, Luis Enrique, and Carlo Ancelotti.
Bruno Fernandes praised Carrick for restoring freedom and responsibility to the squad, saying after the Tottenham win: "He's very good with the words and I think he still remembers when I told him last time he was our manager, for our last game and I was sure Michael could be a great manager โ now he is showing it."
Carrick himself has stayed focused on the present, telling reporters: "II'm fully aware of the role I'm doing here and the responsibility I've got. We want to be successful, and I want the club to be successful beyond the end of the season - if that's me, if that's somebody else."
