Manchester United continue to be linked to a central midfielder as Michael Carrick got his spell as head coach off to an impressive start with a win over Manchester City
Two weeks remain of the transfer window in a January of change for Manchester United. Michael Carrick's tenure as head coach kicked off with a bang on Saturday.
UnitedĀ dominated local rivals Manchester City in a 2-0 win at Old TraffordĀ thanks toĀ goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu. There aren't many better ways to start a spell in charge of the club.
Will the former midfielder be handed new tools to tackle the rest of the season? That remains to be seen with only league matches to contend with until the end of May.
United continue to be linked to a new central midfielder as Kobbie Mainoo made his first Premier League start of the season.
Dortmund want Sancho
Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing Jadon Sancho in the summer, when his contract expires.
Sancho is currently on loan at Aston Villa and according toĀ Fichjaes, Dortmund want to sign him this month on a pre-contract agreement.

United target set for move
Former Brighton defender Pervis Estupinan could be searching for a new club just months after joining AC Milan from Brighton.
The Ecuador international signed a five-year contract as he completed a deal worth £17m. According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, his performances have put his San Siro future in doubt.

Palmer to United?
Former United coach Rene Meulensteen reckons Cole Palmer could be en route to Old Trafford if United appoint Mauricio Pochettino this summer.
"Could Mauricio Pochettino convince Cole Palmer to come to Manchester United? Only if Chelsea would be willing to let him go," Meulensteen told Casinostugan
"Palmer is a fantastic player and I think he would suit Manchester United really well and the way they should be playing because he is a difference maker. Thatās always what you want.
"Youād need to think about how heās going to fit in because on that right-hand side, where Cole is playing to come into the pocket, obviously you can have Amad Diallo there too or Mbeumo. Bruno operates in the middle.
"Palmer was a boyhood United fan and itās actually too strange for words that United never picked up on it and made sure that they sounded him out about his plans if he ever were to leave City. Itās very strange that it never happened, in my opinion."
No way back
Marcus Rashford has been told that he has no future at Manchester United, even though Ruben Amorim has departed.
Rashford was unable to impress Amorim and subsequently went out on loan to Aston Villa and then Barcelona. Things seem to be lining up for a permanent switch, but could a new boss play spoiler?
Danny Murphy doesn't think so.
"I don't think Michael Carrick, or whoever gets the job, will be able to influence the club to change their approach on Marcus Rashford," he told BOYLE Sports.
"I think he's had his chances and opportunities. Also, the fanbase has generally turned on him a little bit. "I think he's too far gone. Even if he doesn't get the Barcelona move, a move somewhere else will benefit him. He looks like he's playing with freedom.
I even saw him come off the bench against Real Madrid, and he looked so sharp, expressing himself and appearing like a different player. I think his days at United are over, regardless of who is in charge."

Mourinho soap opera
Former United boss Jose Mourinho has poured cold water on reports that he could return to Real Madrid.
Currently in charge of Benfica, the Portuguese had been linked with heading to the Bernabeu after Alonso's exit
Speaking over the weekend, he said: "Don't count on me for soap operas. There are good soap operas, but they're very long; you miss one or two episodes and then you lose track. Don't count on me, because I don't watch soap operas."

Glasner stays
After some early Sunday drama, it appears Crystal Palace will not sack Oliver Glasner in the aftermath of his angry outburst.
The Palace boss plunged his future into huge doubt with some forthright opinions before and after this weekend's match against Sunderland.
Previous reports suggested that the Eagles were considering a change, but they will leave Glasner in charge until the end of the season, as per Sky Sports.

Managerial movement
Tottenham are eyeing Xabi Alonso as a potential replacement for Thomas Frank. Real Madrid and Alonso parted ways last week.
According to The Independent, the Tottenham board are debating whether they should have a new figure in charge against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Further meetings are planned.
Given Alonso's previous affiliations, probably not one for Old Trafford chiefs to be too concerned about.
Mateta latest
The prospect of a Manchester United move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta may have ended, and the French forward is now being eyed by Juventus, according to the Daily Mail.
Oliver Glasner confirmed in a revealing press conference on Friday that Mateta could be sold this month if the price is right. Mateta is said to be keen on playing in Italy, and Juve are looking for a new striker to replace Dusan Vlahovic.

Manager available?
Oliver Glasner was set to be available when United reassess their options in the summer anyway but Crystal Palace might part ways with their boss early.
Sky Sports reports the Eagles will make a decision on his future today after he claimed to be 'abandoned' by the board. Palace chief Steve Parish is said to be fuming.

Ex-United keeper sacked
Huddersfield have sacked manager Lee Grant. The League One side lost 3-1 to Burton Albion yesterday, with Grant dismissed having only been appointed in the summer when he signed a three-year contract.
āEntering this season with renewed optimism and hope having proactively reshaped our First Team throughout the summer, we were clear about not only our ambitions but how we wanted to achieve them, and the type of team on the pitch we wanted to enjoy alongside our supporters,ā said Huddersfield owner Kevin Nagle.
āSadly, on current form, none of those objectives are being met, and with just under half of the season remaining we feel no other option but to make a change to put the side back on track.
āI would like to thank Lee for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best for his future career. Our previously stated aims and desires for the season remain the same, and we will be making a change with those ambitions still firmly in mind.ā

New normal
Michael Carrick isn't expecting the emotion of the Manchester derby in each one of the remaining games of the season but he hopes his side have set the tone for what they now must produce.
āThatās the challenge ultimately and I think it needs to be a version of normal. Listen, weāre not going to have games with the emotion and feeling and everything that today brought, I think we all understand that.
But thereās definitely levels of standards and expectations that we need to live up to from ourselves as much as anyone on the outside. Iām totally aware of that. Consistency is the key to any success and if you can find that, then youāre on to a winner, so thatās our challenge.
Youāve got to find a way of doing that. Big one next week [against Arsenal], obviously another tough one. But on the back of today, weāve got a good foundation to build on.ā
Sancho's next move
Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Jadon Sancho for a third time this summer. Sancho, on loan at Aston Villa, could be available for free at the end of the season.
It is seen as a move that is too good to pass up, according to reports in Europe.
Jadon Sancho of Aston Villa holds off Piero Hincapie of Arsenal.
Defender eyed
Manchester United will face competition from Tottenham and Aston Villa in a move for Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu. The Frenchman is unlikely to be targeted until the summer, per Calciomercato.
Neves fee
Ruben Neves, 28, has been consistently linked to United during the winter window as his contract expires in the summer. Al-Hilal will demand a fee in the region of £20m, according to Football Insider.
