Paris Saint-Germain acted quickly to shut down a wave of controversy that spread rapidly online. Within hours, an unfounded rumor began circulating on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that Luis Enrique had rejected an offer to extend his contract with PSG. The story was widely attributed to the German outlet Bild — but there was one major problem: no such report ever existed.

The viral headline suggested that Luis Enrique had turned down PSG’s extension proposal. However, closer inspection revealed the claim to be entirely fabricated. After careful checks, it became clear that Bild had not published any article or information of this kind. Instead, the rumor originated from a handful of social media accounts and quickly snowballed, being repeatedly shared until it was mistakenly treated as legitimate news — despite having no credible source to support it.

PSG Move Quickly to Quash the Rumour

Given the attention the false story had attracted, PSG responded without delay. Sporting advisor Luis Campos issued a firm and unmistakable denial in comments to Canal+ journalist Olivier Tallaron, calling the report “100% fake news.” His response was brief, direct, and left no room for interpretation.

Contrary to the online speculation, there has been no rejection of a contract extension by Luis Enrique, nor is there any internal tension surrounding his future. On the contrary, PSG remain fully committed to their manager, whose current deal runs until 2027, and continue to see him as a key figure in the club’s long-term sporting project.

This episode once again highlights how quickly misinformation can spread in the digital era — and why clubs must react swiftly and decisively to prevent false narratives from taking hold. PSG’s response served as a timely reminder of the importance of verifying sources before treating rumors as fact.

Why Luis Enrique Remains Central to PSG’s Vision

Far from being a manager on uncertain footing, Paris Saint-Germain view Luis Enrique as a cornerstone of their long-term strategy. Since his arrival, the club has deliberately shifted away from short-term glamour signings toward a more structured, disciplined sporting model — one that prioritises collective strength over individual stardom.

Luis Enrique was brought in specifically to lead that cultural reset. His emphasis on tactical organisation, pressing intensity, and youth integration aligns closely with PSG’s evolving identity, especially in a post-Messi–Neymar era. Internally, there is little appetite for instability, and certainly no indication that contract talks — when they eventually take place — would be contentious.

In fact, sources close to the club suggest that discussions about the future are calm and measured, rather than urgent or reactive. PSG are under no pressure to rush negotiations, and neither side has shown signs of dissatisfaction. That context makes the viral rumour all the more implausible
